"A Prelude" was written by D.H. Lawrence in 1907. It was the first of his 67 short stories, all of which will be published individually in audio format by the Blackthorn Press. The story is set on a Nottinghamshire farm and tells the tale of two lovers, almost separated by class and money but brought together by passion and love.

Set in the relentlessly grey-skied, grey-walled world of a Midlands coal mining village just after the First World War, this tells the story of the love that developed between Lady Chatterley and Oliver Mellors, her husband's gamekeeper. The full text was not published in the United Kingdom until 1960, more than 30 years after it had been written, because of its explicit content and use of prohibited words. And yet, one cannot help wondering whether without its excoriating and often still accurate depiction of the British upper classes, the book might have been less harshly received.

David Herbert Richards Lawrence (1885-1930) was one of England's greatest novelists, poets, playwrights, and writers of short stories. His works often explored emotional health, vitality, spontaneity and instinct. "The Lovely Lady" is a short story which tells of an unnervingly dysfunctional family, including the elderly mother and an aunt, the lovely lady who looks much younger than her 72 years. Her son, Robert, and niece, Ciss, are dominated by the charming but manipulative old lady.

D.H. D. H. Lawrence's uncanny and erotic story of a family haunted by devastating bad luck which can only be dispelled by the visitation of a mysterious ghost, who spreads happiness wherever she goes. When the narrator goes to visit his old and much beloved friend Carlotta and her husband Luke, who are weighed down by the catastrophic deaths of their three children, he finds that they are burdened also by the vexed and sexually frustrated spirit of the dead wife of another of their house guests.

It is hay-making time on the Wookey farm. Two brothers are building the haystack, but thinking about other things – about young women, and love. There are angry words, and then a fight between the brothers. But the work goes on, visitors come and go, and the long hot summer day slowly turns to evening. Then the sun goes down, covering the world with a carpet of darkness. From the hedges around the hayfield comes the rich, sweet smell of wild flowers, and the hay will make a fine, soft bed.

The third published novel of D. H. Lawrence, taken by many to be his earliest masterpiece, tells the story of Paul Morel, a young man and budding artist.

Over the far horizon the blanket of night begins to slowly dissolve. The sun is once more on its daily journey across the heavens. The light begins to sharpen and increase in intensity, revealing the landscape. Morning has begun, and dazed heads and sleepy faces come to terms with the new day. The human race prides itself on being the most organised of animals. We manage the fate of all other species. All other animals bow to our control or suffer. In diminishing numbers we allow some to live in the wild, but in increasing numbers we domesticate them, and whether they become part of the family, a best friend or wonderfully decorative accessory, we take their compliance for granted.

NBC University Theater initially started in Chicago with a remit to bring adaptations of classic novels, usually Anglo-American, to a radio audience. Daring, transgressive and controversial, D.H. Lawrence scandalized the literary world with his frank descriptions of sex and desire. He was censored by his own publisher for being too explicit, and several of his most famous works were banned under the Obscene Publications Act. But for Lawrence, a self-described 'priest of love', passion was the stuff of life - and these two dynamic reimaginings celebrate him at his most bold, pushing the boundaries of sexuality and the fulfilment of furious need. 

The descendents of the deceased horse dealer have fallen on hard times and are being evicted from the family stud farm. The three brothers and one sister are sitting around the breakfast table, discussing what each of them will do in the face of their sudden destitution. Only the horse dealer's daughter, Mabel, remains silent. She has made up her mind what to do...but will not communicate with the others. A visit from Jack Ferguson, the local doctor shifts the focus to this character.

Sons and Lovers was the first of Lawrence's major works, and is still considered to be one of his best. The 1913 novel, partly autobiographical and set in the coalmining village of Bestwood, is notable for being the first English novel to be genuinely working-class in origin and focus.
