  • How AI is unmaking us
    May 3 2026

In the final part of our three-part series on AI, we turn to a strange source: the enigmatic philosopher and social critic Paul Kingsnorth. Kingsnorth is a controversial figure, known as much for his critiques of capitalism as his hatred for leftist ideology. But he's also an important voice in a world increasingly spiralling down the drainpipe of "progress". In his latest book, he uses the idea of "the Machine" to paint a picture of the dark future we're falling headlong into. Unlike AI 2027, Kingsnorth's work is far more subjective and spiritual. Yet, in many ways, it speaks to the nascent fear we're all feeling, but often struggle to articulate.

  • Is Peter Thiel right about the Antichrist?
    Apr 20 2026

Throughout history, the Antichrist has acted as a political and spiritual truncheon—a tool that individuals and institutions alike could use to tar and feather their opponents. It's been used by popes and reformers, kings and cardinals, revolutionaries and reactionaries alike. And yet, behind its political utility, the concept of the Antichrist has a very specific, biblical origin.

In this episode, Jesse and Zanita examine tech billionaire Peter Thiel's recent obsession with the Antichrist. We look at why he's so preoccupied with this strange biblical idea, what it means for his work and what it means for us.

This is also part 1 of a 3-part series on AI. Each episode will examine a different aspect of the AI conversation and links directly to an article series Jesse has written. To read the series, click the link below or pick up a copy of Signs of the Times digitally or in print.
