About this listen
"The fae are no joke, girl. Be wise. Be smart. Be cunning if you can…"
What are you supposed to do when your father reveals that he made a binding agreement to marry you off to the Dark Fae Prince across the mountains?
He'd done it to save our kingdom; that was fair. What's not fair is that I have to leave everything I ever knew to marry a monster. Under the cover of night, I escape the palace to use my secret magic and be a midwife to the city's women, and now I have to leave them all behind.
The fae prince is an arrogant jerk and a dirty fighter. The commander of their elite forces is a terrifying enigma. When they arrive to take me away, what happens next is nothing I could have ever dreamed of.
I end up at the fae warrior academy for their males, disguised as a male, and have to share a dorm room with my fae fiancé. There are big powers at play here, and I'm the only person with the power to make a difference.
Could things get any worse? The answer is yes.
She's the Man meets Sarah J. Maas in this slow-burn spicy romantic fantasy.

There were some parts of the book that took long pauses even at 1.5 speed I noticed it. Otherwise the narration was good.
Magical midwife’s

Alright, so here’s the thing...I’ve read a lot of these “secret girl academy” type books( its one of my Absolute favorite set ups )
but this one… kind of missed the mark for me. Not completely, but enough that I walked away a little frustrated.
Let’s start with what worked: the concept is fantastic. A warrior midwife? Yes, please. That angle alone made me pick this up, and honestly, it’s what kept me reading. I loved how the author wove midwifery into the world-building...it felt fresh, I found myself really intrigued. The plot itself kept my attention enough that I blew through the book pretty quickly, which says something. And I adored the animal companion. Always a win.
But… here’s where things got shaky for me. There were so many tropes thrown in evil stepmother, arranged marriage, enemies-to-lovers, surprise reveals, convenient coincidences, chosen by a goddess for a mission, healing powers, you name it, it was in here. Instead of feeling layered, it started to feel crowded. Like the story didn’t trust its strongest elements and had to pile on everything else.
The main character? Complicated. On one hand, I like that she’s flawed, it makes her human. On the other hand, some of her decisions were so baffling that I wanted to yell at my audiobook. Speaking of the audiobook… yikes. The female narrator paused in weird spots, and you could actually hear her sniffling and taking breaths before lines. Super distracting, totally pulled me out of the story.
And while I won’t spoil everything, let’s just say some of the big plot twists felt unearned. Things just… happened. Conveniently. Like her father’s sudden illness, she has all this medical training and power and still doesn’t question it? Or the whole fae academy thing....over way too fast, and she seemed ridiculously overpowered without actually earning it( i know she had sword training, but it didnt seem enough)
So yeah, this is a solid 3⭐️ for me. Great concept, good pacing, but weighed down by trope overload, odd character choices, and (at least in audio form) a rough delivery. Worth a try if the premise grabs you, but maybe stick to the print version.
I think the Narration didnt do this story any favours.

Loved it

Could be better read instead of through audio. The narrators just didn't do it for me. The female narrator sometimes too so long between breaths I checked my phone for a silent call, making the book break up and flow less.
I couldn't lock on to the book, the characters or the world. I was annoyed because I found it interesting but it lacked something that i can't pinpoint. Then again I had the same feeling with some of the highest rated books ACOTAR... did I get that right...maybe its A court of thorns on roses...anyway I just couldn't connect and couldn't invest. Some good characters in there, just didn't grab me enough to care about them.
No smex, no real heat yet, but some cute moments and some good action battles

story itself is good but I had a feeling it would be more enjoyable when reading by yourself.
