I had one taste and all I wanted was more.

Dag

My brothers have been on me for ages about being with Esperanza, the club’s lawyer, but I always wrote it off. I always told myself I shouldn’t mix business with pleasure, and that we wouldn’t be a good match. I figured we were cut from the same cloth and it would be a disaster . . . that is, until I crossed a line with her one fateful night.

I was weak and alcohol was swarming through our veins. Love was in the air, and I guess we both didn’t want to be alone. It was circumstantial that we even ended up in her bed in the first place, but after that first time, I wanted more. The sex was amazing, and every bit of confidence she has in the courtroom translates into the bedroom as well. What you see is what you get with Esperanza, and all I wanted was more. Little did I know she didn’t. All she wanted was something casual. She didn’t want commitment. I didn’t understand why at first, but over time I figured it out: she was afraid of it.

We weren’t slow with the physical aspect of our relationship, but I took my time peeling back the layers that made Esperanza the woman she is. Eventually, I found out we both had traumas from the past. I had no doubt I found the woman for me, but just like always, shit with the club has to come and f--k everything I’ve worked for up . . . and I could lose the thing I’ve been fighting for with a snap of my fingers.

Book seven was an enjoyable listen and kept me interested throughout. There was some repeated information that felt a little redundant at times, but it didn’t distract from the story too much. The narration continues to be a bit underwhelming, though, and still lacks much variation or energy.

MMC/FMC- Dag and Esperanza
POV- 1st person dual
Genre- MC Romance
Heat- 🌋. There’s one erotic scene and she spends most of the book recovering from a S.A., which is not exactly conducive to zexytime. When they finally Do the Thing again, it’s entirely off page.
Series? Y
Safety: N; there’s s. violence. There’s no cheating, though. The main couple gets a HFN, but there are plot issues left unresolved.
Triggers- Violence (against adults and child), Assault, Language, S.A.
Tropes- really, this is more of MC Fiction than MC Romance, even though it wasn’t meant to be. In any case, it’s not very tropey. Wedding Hookup and Damsel in Distress.
What I liked- The characters. Dag and Esperanza were likable and the secondary characters were interesting and had personalities.
Side note- Kudos to the author for making the heroine multicultural, but boo that the MC is all white guys, mostly with Viking or Scandinavian heritage.
What I didn’t like- the book fell down in the romance department. The relationship was boring and drawn out, plus the author told more than showed. The book itself dragged. There were some interesting events, most of which happened before the last third of the book. It’s sad when the punishment of a bad guy is anticlimactic. Unfortunately, this book is not good .
Verdict- I’m going to read a couple of Knox’s other books to see if I dislike her writing style or not. Either way, I can’t recommend this particular book.

Esperanza is the clubs lawyer and Dag is also a lawyer a perfect match right? Well whilst Dag wants more Esperanza is afraid to go further, and with ger stalker ex back on the scene could they ever become more? Well written steamy engaging drama desires and more a great addition to the series.

audio- Jason Fella brings the story to life with easy listing and emotional depth
