Most people search for answers in moments when life feels fractured, when relationships have shifted, families have changed, or the weight of unresolved experiences begins to surface. In those moments, people are not simply looking for advice. They are looking for understanding, clarity, and a voice that can help them make sense of the pieces of their story.
Dr. Steve Hudgins is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S), National Certified Counselor (NCC), professor, author, researcher, and U.S. Army veteran whose work focuses on the intersection of relationships, identity, and healing. Before entering the field of counseling, Dr. Hudgins worked in telecommunications engineering, where he helped design systems that connected people through technology. Today, he applies that same analytical mindset to the engineering of the human mind, helping individuals and families understand the deeper patterns shaping their lives. Drawing from decades of clinical experience, academic research, and personal insight, he helps individuals and families understand how the experiences that once felt broken can ultimately become the pieces that shape a meaningful life.
Dr. Hudgins is the researcher who introduced the concept of Mosaic Families, reframing what have traditionally been called blended families as dynamic systems formed from many histories, relationships, and emotional experiences. This work expanded into the development of Mosaic Family Systems Theory (MFST), a framework designed to help clinicians, families, and educators better understand the complexities of divorce, remarriage, attachment, and relational rebuilding.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Hudgins is also active in advocacy for children within family court systems, raising awareness about the psychological dynamics that can emerge during high-conflict custody disputes and encouraging reforms that better protect the emotional well-being of children. As a veteran, he also advocates for improvements within the VA health care system, particularly in areas related to mental health access and long-term support for those who have served.
Through his books, speaking, and research, Dr. Hudgins works to bridge the gap between psychology, lived human experience, and systemic change. His writing challenges readers to look beyond surface solutions and instead understand the deeper relational patterns that shape identity, conflict, and healing.
Dr. Hudgins is also a growing thought leader in podcasting as the host of Coached Soul, a weekly mental health and personal growth podcast available through Amazon, YouTube, and major podcast platforms. Through these conversations, he explores the psychology behind relationships, family systems, emotional resilience, and the unseen forces that shape human behavior.
Because the truth is simple, even if the journey is not:
the pieces of our lives are never wasted. When understood, even the broken pieces become the mosaic that defines who we are becoming.
