Karin Krause is a registered nurse, entrepreneur, and founder of Hope & A Future, Wisconsin's pioneering intergenerational community that has transformed elder care by bringing generations together under one roof. Her journey began when she witnessed her beloved neighbor being treated as invisible in a 1970s nursing home. Having experienced the pain of isolation herself after losing her father as a child, Karin recognized a broken system that deprived elders of purpose and connection while leaving families struggling without support. This led her to create Hope & A Future in Madison, Wisconsin—an innovative community where residents don't just receive care, they give it. Here, elders mentor children, staff become an extended family of friends, and everyone discovers what they have to offer. The first phase of the model has influenced over 1,000 similar homes across Wisconsin. Expansion plans for the intergenerational neighborhood pilot serve as a blueprint for addressing America's loneliness epidemic. Karin has spoken at healthcare conferences nationwide and consulted with communities seeking to replicate the Hope & A Future model. She lives at Hope & A Future with her husband Rick, where she continues to demonstrate that the solution to isolation isn't complicated—it's community. "We're building a community where no one feels invisible," Karin says. "And we can build it together." Hope and a Future: Where Generations Find Purpose Together is her first book.
