Karen Frances McCarthy is a bestselling author, accredited medium, and scholar of consciousness and contemporary fiction. Born in Dublin, Ireland, she is the author of "Till Death Don't Us Part" (White Crow Books, 2020) and "The Re-enchanted Ghost in Contemporary American Fiction" (Routledge, 2026), which explores themes of meaning, death, and spectrality. She spent many years as a major media journalist and embedded Iraq war correspondent before a devastating personal loss reawakened the mediumistic ability she had shown in childhood. She holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham, where her research examined spiritual belief and cultural shift in American ghost literature, three distinctions from the Arthur Findlay College in spiritualist practices and public communication, and is an adjunct instructor at NYU School of Professional Studies and a faculty member of The Shift Network.
