Copywriter turned author, Daren Kay swapped writing about margarine and motors for capturing the comings and goings of a group of flawed but lovable characters who inhabit the far-from-quintessential seaside city in which he lives. Though originally from Yorkshire and a Londoner for 25 years, Daren believes he is a Brightonian at heart. Involved in queer politics since his early 20s - active in the campaign against Clause 28 and later volunteering for Stonewall, since going freelance, Daren has become more committed to causes connected to the LGBTQ+ community - helping to curate the acclaimed Queer the Pier exhibition at Brighton Museum and playing a key role in the setting up of The Ledward Centre - Brighton's LGBTQ+ community space. It's no surprise then that his debut novel celebrates his key passions; history, queer culture and the wonderful city-by-the-sea that he now calls home.
