I was born and educated in Scotland and then at London University, dropping out of the latter to work as a copywriter in the glamourous world of advertising. It pleases me to know that some of the best novelists were once young copywriters e.g. Salman Rushdie, William Trevor, Fay Weldon. I eventually had the enormous luck of being mentored by the wonderful Sue Townsend, author of the Adrian Mole books, who encouraged me to complete my first novel. 'Rory's Boys' , a contemporary black comedy set in a gay retirement home. Wanting to take a more 'serious' tack, I next wrote the historical novel 'The Prince Of Mirrors' (Fairlight Books 2018) about the notorious Victorian Prince Eddy and, most recently, its sequel 'Valhalla' (Fairlight Books 2020) about the early life of Queen Mary. I'm now working on my fourth novel. Onwards!
