This story is about the king of the polar bears who lives in the far North, where all the animals fear him. One day, some men arrive in a boat, shoot him, and take his pelt. A baby is found by wood nymphs in the forest of Burzee. They raise him as their own and give him the name Neclaus. When he grows up, Neclaus has to leave the forest so he makes a home for himself in the laughing valley of Hohaha, where he lives amongst humans for the first time. He discovers there that many children are very poor and neglected so, to cheer them up, he whittles wooden toys as gifts. Eventually he makes presents for all the children and so the story of Santa Claus is born.

Author L. Frank Baum crafted a series of stories that took Mother Goose rhymes and created full stories as fun companions to the rhymes. When Baum wasn’t writing his Wizard of Oz stories, this was a way for him to create meaningful stories. Take a trip with Humpty Dumpty and Coutchie-Coulou as they leave the nest for a human kingdom. One of the true classics of American literature. Originally published in 1900, it was the first truly American fairy tale, as Baum crafted a wonderful fantasy, peopled with memorable characters — a cornfield scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and a humbug wizard.

The Emerald City is built all of beautiful marbles in which are set a profusion of emeralds, every one exquisitely cut and of very great size. There are other jewels used in the decorations inside the houses and palaces, such as rubies, diamonds, sapphires, amethysts and turquoises. But in the streets and upon the outside of the buildings only emeralds appear, from which circumstance the place is named the Emerald City of Oz.
