Four from Mangrove is a four-story collection, all involving different aspects of the city-nation of Mangrove. The audiobook is a classic fantasy, sword, sorcery tale. Once, there was a land like no other. It was a city-state, a nation. The reach of its rulers sometimes spanned continents, and at other times reached no farther than the walls of a war-torn palace. Giants lived in Mangrove - powerful kings and generals who ruled all within their sight; and lands far beyond. And it gave birth to the least of us - powerless serfs and homeless orphans.

The author James E Smith (1832 - 1893) served during the Civil War as Captain and commander of the 4th New York Independent Volunteer Light Artillery battery. Early Days in the Black Hills with Some Account of Capt. Jack Crawford was originally published in 1892 and features several of his adventures in the early Black Hills gold rush. It also deals with the legendary John Wallace (Captain Jack) Crawford (1847 - 1917), known as "The Poet Scout". Crawford was an American adventurer, educator, and master storyteller about the Wild West.

The preacher James Smith (1802 – 1862) was a predecessor of Charles Spurgeon at New Park Street Chapel in London. In this lengthy sermon, he explains the evening prayer based on Luke 24.29, Psalm 55:16-17, Psalm 119:62, and other verses, under various headings.

This sermon by James Smith is based on King David’s words in Psalm 63:1. Smith explains that the object of David's thirst was the Lord, not merely the tabernacle, or its services, or even devotion; but the Lord himself. He states that it is the same with every real Christian - his God is the object of his desire as He has revealed himself as the source of love - and love is the solace and delight of the soul.

James Smith (1802-1862) was a predecessor of Charles Spurgeon at New Park Street Chapel in London from 1841 until 1850. It is said that Smith's readings were even more popular than Spurgeon's. In this sermon, he explains to the believer that they have a relation to have a relation to God and a relation to man, and that they are commanded to do good unto all men, especially unto those who are of the household of faith.

In this sermon, James Smith refers to the conduct of David in praying for others. Many of his Psalms are intercessory. Smith quotes from Psalm 28:9: "Save your people, and bless your inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up forever."

In this 1858 sermon, James Smith deals with love or the lack of it. he asks, “Are our spirit, temper, conversation, and general behavior - such as to win the love of others?” and responds, “If we are sour, morose, reserved, snappish, selfish, or given to complaining - we must not be surprised if people are not very warmly attached to us.” His remedy is for every Christian to be more like Christ.
