Will Cannon doesn't believe that the Indians guarding Red Rock Mountain are Ghost Riders. He does know that a vicious gang of outlaws have been robbing and killing innocent folks near the town of Grants, New Mexico. Will believes that the Ghost Riders are keeping everyone away from Red Rock Mountain because there is something on the mountain that the outlaws want to keep secret.

While he is El Paso he learns that a beautiful, young woman has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom by the ruthless Mexican bandit, El Diablo. Germantown is deep in Mexico and it is the hideout for many cutthroats. Saving the young woman is Will's first concern but he also wants the ten thousand dollar reward for the safe return of Nita Beal.

There are stories about the major leagues and minor leagues and about players, coaches, and managers. When Joe and his men don't return on time, Will Cannon rides the trail alone to the silver mining camps around Silver City. Will has to rescue the men and dispense some frontier justice to the outlaw gangs operating out of Silver City.

The markets crash, the banks close, paper money and credit cards are worthless, foreign governments demand payment of our debt in gold, violent gangs of rioters and looters control the streets, the crisis is global, people are without power, clean drinking water and sewage services. Hundreds of thousands die every day from starvation and disease and wars rage in many countries as governments fall. A sad story or a prediction of the future?

Most of the stories are set in recent times and some of the stories set in the golden age of baseball. If you like baseball or if you like stories about the relationships between people you will like these stories. "The Hooting Hoot Owls" is one of my favorite baseball stories.
