Many people think of the typical serial killer when they hear the word psychopath. The truth is that there are psychopaths in our daily lives, and we may not even know it. Unlike the other four conditions in the Misunderstood Loner series, the psychopathy disorder is generally something a person is born with versus something that is learned from his environment. His brain is wired a certain way that many of us do not understand, much like how an autistic person has distinct wiring in his or her brain.

Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED) is a disorder which often gets diagnosed for people who do not fall under other mental disorders or personality disorders, but who experience rage incidents which are seemingly uncontrollable to them. A narcissistic relationship drastically affects the wellbeing of both the narcissist and his partner. The partner of a narcissist often suffers from trauma bonding (Stockholm syndrome), Cassandra Syndrome, Wendy Complex, or Complex PTSD. They suffer from these disorders throughout the relationship, as well as after the relationship ends. Some people expect almost immediately relief after the narcissist moves on from the relationship, but this is often not the case.

A psychological complex can drive a person's thoughts, feelings, and emotions. It can cause one to react inappropriately, irrationally, and violently to any given circumstance. Often, other people are not aware of the signs and symptoms of a psychological complex. However, they are hidden just beneath the surface, driving a person's decisions and causing seemingly stable people to unravel at the most inopportune times. A psychological complex can drive a person to murder without much warning, and he or she may not be so easy to diagnose.

There is no true way to get a good picture of how many relationships span this dynamic, as many borderlines and narcissists go undiagnosed or undetected. Most narcissists don't have the intuition, knowledge of their condition, or interest in their inner world to pursue why they are the way they are. It is unlikely that they would seek treatment because of their overinflated egos...
