Doch Shetland-Kommissar Jimmy Perez glaubt nicht daran. Er erkennt das Opfer - der Mann, der offenbar an Gedächtnisverlust litt, war am Abend zuvor bei einer Vernissage unter Tränen zusammengebrochen und dann plötzlich verschwunden. Je mehr Perez ermittelt, desto tiefer gräbt er im Morast der kleinen Gemeinschaft von Biddista.
