Smoke Jensen has journeyed up to the Colorado Rockies to a sell a prized bull to a local rancher. Instead, the rancher and his wife have been mercilessly slaughtered by outlaws only moments before Smoke’s arrival. In a hail of bullets, Smoke pulverizes two of the murderers and drags two others to the town of Brown Spur for justice. Come hanging day, the two killers are on the way to the gallows when a thundering gang of raiders crashes into town and rescues them from the jaws of death.

A showdown is looming, and the only hope for avoiding bloodshed is the Texas Rangers.

He’s soon riding into a bloody Colorado war that has militia cavalry volunteers and Kiowa warriors stalking each other across the territory — matching kill for kill, outrage for outrage. Defying both sides, Smoke uncovers a sinister conspiracy to set ranchers and Kiowas at each other’s throats. 

When gunfighter Monte Carson decides to go straight, returning a stolen $50,000 Army payroll, he makes an enemy of former colleague Jim Slaughter, who vows to kill Monte's wife in retaliation, and Monte's only hope of rescuing his wife is Mountain Man Smoke Jensen....
