Yet in the time following this, Pansay is increasingly haunted by Agnes Keith-Wessington as she begins appearing -- again and again -- in a ghostly rickshaw that only he can see.

Another of Wodehouse's frantic scrambles of characters to amuse us today as he did his fans of the '20s. This story is concerned with the obligation the rich have for the poor and may still feel that they have today.

This wonderful story takes us to a town called Kasrilevke, which is inhabited by poor but cheerful "little people" whose goal in life is simply to provide for the Sabbath.

In this adventure we are at last introduced to Sherlock Holmes’ brother, Mycroft, the only relative of whom Watson’s friend has ever openly spoken during their long assocation. Mycroft, says Sherlock Holmes, is Sherlock’s superior in intelligence and observation but cannot put the gifts to practical use. They stroll to the singular accomodations of the Diogenes Club, and as Dr. Watson becomes acquainted with the elder Holmes, Mycroft introduces them to a Grecian interpreter.

Flagged down by Inspector LaStrade of Scotland Yard as they walk through the icy winter streets, Holmes and Watson are transported to the home of the aristocratic Lady Whitebread. Once there, she tells them her traditional holiday centerpiece has vanished in the midst of the Christmas dinner - right under the very noses of her guests. The decoration? An enormous work of the jeweler's art centered upon a three inch round emerald called...the Christmas Jewel.

As Dr. Watson commits to history in his journal, "... in reviewing my notes for the year 1890, I have come across a case that, while seeming at the outset to be one of the most mundane ever brought to him, had one of the most inexplicable endings that I have been privileged to record."

England, 1893. Chief Inspector Roderick Langham of Scotland Yard is asked to investigate the discovery of a Russian cargo schooner whose crew has vanished except for its captain, who is found dead, tied to the ship's wheel. The captain's log speaks of strange cargo aboard and the crew members disappearing one after another.

"A coppertop steam engine has disappeared," explains a train boiler inspector as he visits Sherlock Holmes at 221B, "and not by the whim of drunken youths." Something sinister is afoot, and Holmes learns as he takes on the mystery that criminals have designs upon using the locomotive for purposes never imagined by its designers.

Seed-merchant employee Roland Bleke finds his romance with girlfriend Muriel becoming ever more complicated. Knowing his growing wages will cause her family members to demand Bleke marry her so that they can leech off her new husband's money, he successfully hides this fact until his winning the £40,000 prize of a sweepstake is publicized in a local newspaper.

A wonderful adventure between a rich man and his butler. Again, P.G. Wodehouse come up with a great experience for all listeners.
