A healthy soldier comes upon an old witch and a hollow tree while on his way home from the war. Before long, he has acquired an old lighter and all the money he could want. Meanwhile, the beautiful princess of the small town has been locked up by her own parents. The soldier falls in love with her - but cannot find a way to win her.
