Joining us in the Audible Studios to discuss his latest novel, A Shout in the Ruins, is writer, poet and US Army veteran Kevin Powers. An Iraq war veteran, serving between 2004 and 2005, Kevin Powers is the author behind The Yellow Birds, which won the PEN/Hemingway Award and the Guardian First Book Award and was a National Book Award finalist. Following on from his debut poetry collection in 2014, Power’s latest published book is A Shout in the Ruins.

After working as a creator for the journal Nature for a decade, being a frequent contributor to The Guardian newspaper for years and a regular host on BBC Radio 4, Rutherford realised that at some point he had become a writer and broadcaster on science and genetics. A natural at making the deepest depths of science understandable, Rutherford has again taken up his pen (and microphone) and this time enlightened us on the story of eugenics and study of genetics.

Joining us at Audible Studios is author, journalist and screenwriter Sarfraz Manzoor. Manzoor was born in Pakistan and grew up in Luton, UK. Being raised in a Muslim family while attending a mainly white school, Manzoor was more than aware of his differences and was told that white people would never accept him.

Joining us at Audible Studios is British journalist and author Sarah Sands. She has recently written and narrated the introduction to the book Today: A History of Our World Through 60 Years of Conversations & Controversies, which is what we talk to her about in this interview, as well as what her job involves as Today editor, the words of caution that were given to her when she started the job and the sort of feedback (read ‘polite complaints') that get written in to the show.

Social media sensation and comedic genius Arron Crascall visits the Audible Studios for the first time to discuss his debut book, See Ya Later: The World According to Arron Crascall. We find out the highs and lows of being an Internet prankster and what it's really like to go from being a small home-grown boy from Dover to collaborating with some of the biggest names in Hollywood.

James Bennet joins us in the studio to talk about his Ben Garston series and the latest release, Raising Fire. He introduces us to the series and his characters, tells us how fantasy and the real world interact and explains why this book is a little darker.

Beginning her professional career as a fashion journalist and stylist, Scanlon has gone on to become a household name at the BBC, fronting documentaries on BBC Three, and presenting Your Home Made Perfect. Scanlon has not stopped there: she has also presented a BBC Radio 2 show and often presents The One Show too. Scanlon has hosted her own podcast since 2019 titled Thanks A Million which has proved to be hugely popular, currently on its fifth series, and her book Joyrider is now on the (virtual and physical) shelves.

Magid, born in Somalia, came to Britain as a refugee in 1994. He grew up in Sheffield and completed a travelling gap year before studying at the University of Hull, where his foray into politics began, being elected as Students Union president. Entering the world of work, Magid was elected as a Green Party councillor on Sheffield City Council in 2016, and from 2018-2019 he served as lord mayor.

Joining us from home is post-doctoral research scientist Dr Tim Gregory, whose book Meteorite brings us not just the story of our planet, but the origins of the solar system in a comprehensible form. Dr Tim Gregory grew up in Yorkshire and has always had a fascination with science, mainly space and rocks.

Joining us in the Audible Studios to talk about her book Wally Funk’s Race for Space is science writer and broadcaster Sue Nelson. Wally Funk was one of the 13 members of the 1961 Women in Space Programme. The female aviation pioneer also became the first female air safety investigator for the NTSB and the first civilian flight instructor at Fort Sill, with over 19,000 flight hours. Sue Nelson, former BBC science correspondent and Radio 4 presenter, documents Wally’s extraordinary life in her new book, Wally Funk’s Race for Space, published in 2018.

Joining us in the Audible Studios to talk about her new book, The Discomfort Zone: How to Get What You Want by Living Fearlessly, is editor in chief of Cosmopolitan magazine Farrah Storr. Internationally recognised as a leading authority on print and digital publishing, Farrah Storr has taken magazines such as Women’s Health and Cosmopolitan to new heights under her leadership and has been the editor in chief of Cosmopolitan since 2015. Her debut title, The Discomfort Zone: How to Get What You Want by Living Fearlessly, was published in September 2018.

Joining us in the Audible Studios to discuss her book Cabin Fever is author and former Virgin Atlantic air stewardess Mandy Smith. We’re joined too by narrator and former cabin crew Milly Richardson. Solicitor-turned-author Sarah Haywood joins us in the Audible studios to talk about her debut novel, The Cactus, a story of a control freak losing control. Sarah discusses the highs and lows of becoming a published author, turning her back on law to pursue a novel and how her own life influenced the book.

It's a book which aims to make the world of finance more accessible for outsiders and a more noble pursuit for insiders.

Dallas Campbell joins us in the Audible Studios to chat about his new book, Ad Astra: An Illustrated Guide to Leaving the Planet. Having travelled the earth widely presenting shows such as Bang Goes the Theory and The Gadget Show, Dallas chats to us about an even bigger adventure - space. Having spent 13 years in China as a journalist specialising in the banking and financial sector, McMahon has spent his career reporting on China’s economy. He wrote his first book, China’s Great Wall of Debt, whilst a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC. Dinny McMahon talks to us about what his book reveals, how China’s economy is viewed globally and how he overcame the challenges of reporting in China.
