Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne is a classic novel filled with wonder and adventure. The story begins when London native Phileas Fogg attempts to win a wager by attempting to travel around the world in 80 days. Fogg accompanied by his newly hired valet, Jean Passepartout, sets off on his adventure on October 2, 1872.

Nowadays, it would not seem an insurmountable task to make it around the world in 80 days. Yet, when Jules Verne published this novel in 1873, this was a phenomenon that many doubted was remotely possible. We are at first introduced to Phileas Fogg, who lives in London and has just fired his valet for silly reasons. Fogg then hires Jean Passepartout who, at the time of hire, has no idea of the adventure that his new boss will take him on. Fogg learns that it is now possible to travel around the world - starting and ending up in London - in only 80 days.

After some time at sea, the captain finally appears and announces his identity, and his plan to sail to the North Pole. The crew faces dangers and hardship as they fight their way through the icy seas, while the captain drives them with single-minded focus to find a passage ever farther north.

Il y met en scène avant Hergé deux jumeaux qui pourraient être les Dupont/Dupond et un jeune savant du nom d'Ursiclos qui n'a rien à envier à Tournesol ! Bref, un roman à écouter avec plaisir pour retrouver toute une époque et un pays qui inspira L'Île Noire à l'inventeur de Tintin ! Mais cela reste avant tout une très belle histoire d'amour entre une fille de bonne famille fantasque et un jeune peintre plein de courage et de nobles sentiments !
