Napínavý příběh doprovází líčení tajemných mořských hlubin, zprávy o rozvoji techniky a varování před nebezpečím zneužití výsledků vědeckého pokroku. Autorova bohatá fantazie se drží v mezích technické pravděpodobnosti a proto román působí i dnes velmi přesvědčivě.
