One of the most famous fairy tales of all time, The Little Mermaid was written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen and published in 1837. Few winter stories are more affecting than Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Match Girl. Učenec ze studených krajů se odstěhuje do země, kde je pořád horko. Vůbec si na to nemůže zvyknout, a proto přes den zůstává doma a ven vychází jen večer. Po západu slunce městečko a jeho obyvatelé ožívají a je na co se dívat! Hrdinovu zvědavost však nejvíc dráždí protější dům. Zůstává tichý, jako by byl neobydlený, a přesto z něj v noci vychází podivné světlo... Aby přišel záhadě na kloub, odpoutá od sebe učenec vlastní stín a pošle ho na výzvědy. Stín se však začne vymykat kontrole a snaží se převzít roli pána.

Dva sousedé mají stejné jméno, a aby je lidé rozlišili, jednomu říkají Mikula a tomu druhému Mikulka. První je bohatý, má čtyři koně, ale je hloupý a závistivý. Druhý má koně jen jednoho, zato ale vyniká vychytralostí. Když mezi nimi jednoho dne dojde ke sporu, zabije Mikula jediného sousedova koně. Mikulka pak musí využít veškerý svůj důvtip, aby znovu získal nějaký majetek. Který z hrdinů vyjde z příběhu jako vítěz?

Hrdinové této Andersenovy pohádky se však jeden po druhém přesvědčí, že špatně zvolená přání se mohou člověku pěkně vymstít... Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) byl dánský spisovatel, který se proslavil jako autor dětské literatury. Mezi nejoblíbenější pohádky z jeho pera patří Malá mořská víla, Sněhová královna, Ošklivé káčátko, Princezna na hrášku nebo Císařovy nové šaty.

Následující zimu opouští svoji kamarádku Gerdu a nastupuje do saní tajemné Sněhové královny, která si ho odveze do svého paláce. Gerda se však rozhodne Kaje zachránit a vydává se tak na dlouhou cestu plnou dobrodružství.
