• 2. Advocacy and Upsets: Special Education and What New York's Primary Wins Could Mean for Sacramento
    Jun 30 2026

In this episode, Ryan and Jenn share what inspired them to become special education advocates and reflect on the challenges they've experienced while fighting for students and families. They discuss why advocacy matters, how navigating special education systems has shaped their perspective, and what keeps them motivated to continue the work.

And then Erica, Ryan and Jenn discuss recent democratic socialist electoral wins in New York and explore what those results could mean for the broader progressive movement here in Sacramento, including potential lessons and implications for organizing and policy here. Throughout the episode, they examine the connections between grassroots advocacy, community organizing, and holding electeds accountable.

Jenn is running for school board and is an amazing foster mother and former teacher. Ryan is a dad and community activist deeply involved in education issues, and we have all been told we are too much, divisive, and more, so let's just talk about it on the pod.
