  • July 9, 2009: Ianto Jones Breaks Fandom's Heart For Eternity
    Jul 12 2026

He tries his best! This week, Emily and V look at a fandom event that was listed on our research spreadsheet as, simply, "A HUGE FUCKING DEAL." Fandom has loved few characters the way it loved, and still loves, Ianto Jones of Torchwood. Unfortunately, he was created by a showrunner who hates fandom even more than most showrunners with the urge to Punish hate their female fans. Even so, fans' love for Ianto is -- like his love interest, Jack Harkness -- immortal.

Virtual TGIF/F - Our friends at TGI Femslash have just announced a brand-new, online fan con happening this summer. On August 29–30, Virtual TGIF/F will bring femslash fans from around the world together for discussion panels, online events, and more. Registration opens June 1st. Find out more at tgifemslash.com/virtualcon

Pop Syllabus - Pop Syllabus is a show where host Christiana Mbakwe Medina deconstructs the zeitgeist and answers the big cultural questions. How did we swing from body positivity to thin-being-in? Why do so many people trust wellness influencers over medical doctors? And how did tech oligarchs become the new celebrities? Think of Christiana as a cross between a messy news anchor and guerilla academic. Each week, she and an expert guest will unpack a buzzy topic, and help us understand the moment while going through it.

Rereading the Revolution - Whether it was a reaction to the politics of the time or the rapidly approaching end date of the Mayan calendar, the pop-cultural landscape of the early 2010s can be best remembered for one thing: dystopian literature. Join plucky young heroines Daphne and Kellie as they dive into all of your favorite young adult novels and series from this era as we reread the revolution. We lived through it once and are back to recap, review, and discuss all the best and worst that the world-shifting genre of YA fiction has to offer–the sci-fi, the fantasy, and the supernatural–at least until our society crumbles and we have to survive a brave new world.

The Pieces - Alright babes, Bimini is here with their very own podcast! Bimini is challenging the world around us and asking how the experiences we've lived have made us the people we are today. From pop stars to politicians, artists and activists, every week Bimini will be unearthing the moments that have shaped their guests' identities, whilst exploring how the world today is impacting the people we are becoming. New episodes drop Tuesdays.

    Jul 8 2026

You have two nickels! This week, Emily and V joined forces with... Emily and Vee! You requested it in our May listener survey: it's a wild conversation with fellow fandom podcast, Mind the Tags. We stumble over direct addresses and begin to wonder which universe we're really in (is it 616??) as we discuss the past, present, and future of fanfiction, and our own origin stories as Vs and Emilys of the fandom podcasting multiverse. Thanks, new friends!

  • June 25: Yuri Day (百合の日) with Erica Friedman
    Jun 28 2026

::Magical girl transition!:: This week, V and Emily were asked to finally, after three and a half years of hosting a fandom podcast, tackle an anime episode. So, because we are not anime girlies, we asked THEE anime expert, Erica Friedman, to join us and explain all things yuri! From school stories in the 1920s and 1930s to Sailor Moon's magical girls, and from Japan to the United States, Erica teaches us about the importance of F/F anime and manga and even inspires us to, perhaps, watch an anime film. We also discussed historical viewing lenses, queerbaiting language, '70s Trek fandom of course, and much more in this supersized episode!

  • June 14, 2011: #shirtgate, Or: The Gaylor Episode
    Jun 14 2026

Shake it off? This week, V and Emily delve way too deeply into a corner of the internet that makes them feel insane: #gaylor, which in some accountings kicked off this week in fandom history with Glee's #shirtgate. How? Why? Whomst? Where? It's all been way-too-meticulously recorded for the ages, so join us down the rabbithole. Also featuring Sebastian Stan??? (How could it be a TWIFH episode without mention of Bucky Barnes, tho. To be fair.)

  • June 13-14, 2008: What We Can Learn from FedConUSA
    Jun 10 2026

Defraud fans and prosper? This week, Emily and V take yet another jaunt to a fan convention gone horribly awry, and once again, it's Star Trek and it's in Dallas. This time, the key ideas are leaking spinal fluid, nuclear-angry celebrity guests, the relative gullibility of us scifi nerds, and German diplomacy. Talk turns very real as we look at the pros and cons (no pun intended) of the mainstreaming of fandom when it comes to conventions, vendors, and supporting fellow fans, while trying to stay safe from online -- and in-person -- scam artists who see fandom not as a community of like-minded human beings, but a demographic ripe for making quick cash. Fandom has always been cringecool to us, and like Star Trek, we're just gonna keep coming back.

  • June 1990: Our Girl Beverly Zuk Teaches Us Many Things
    May 31 2026

Send a SASE! This week, V and Emily take a look at the illustrious -- pun intended -- life and career of Big Name Fanartist and writer Beverly Zuk, whose Fanlore page is a riot of full-frontal Vulcans. We look at the fascinating fic she wrote, particularly "The Third Verdict," and read through her instructions of how to become a fanartist in 1978. Plus, we marvel at the Star Trek Welcommittee and their work to help fans connect in an age before the internet made connecting simple, if not always easy. The key thing we take away from Beverly Zuk's legacy is that fandom is about being a fan together with others.

  • May 25, 1977, 1983, 2018: The Real Star Wars Day
    May 24 2026

Help us, Obi-Wan, you're our only hope! This week, Emily and V look at three separate events that, as we say in Star Wars fandom, "rhyme": the releases of Star Wars (1977), Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). While audience reactions to the three movies aren't identical, the Force grip that Star Wars has on all of us has remained steadfast since the beginning. Star Wars is more than a fandom. It's an energy... it surrounds us and penetrates us... it binds the Galaxy together. Also, listeners, weigh in: are you like Emily, an ewok fan, or are you like V, terrified of ewoks? Let us know in the comments wherever you're listening or send us a message on Tumblr!
