  • Reclaiming Male Integrity.
    Jul 9 2026

I am honored to be joined by Matt Ryg, a professor in the Master of Advocacy and Political Leadership graduate program at Metro State. In this episode, Matt and I discuss themes from The Will to Change, written by Bell Hooks, as we explore the concepts of privilege, power, responsibility and integrity as they pertain to leadership in the context of the "Imperialistic White Supremacist Capitalist Patriarchy" in which we currently live in the United States. Along the way, we examine how our identities and privilege have shaped our understanding of what constitutes leadership. Matt also shares his interpretations of how ideology has pragmatic power in the world of politics and how integrity ties into ethical leadership.

We also take-on the concepts of power in the sphere of advocacy and how privilege can (and should) be used to undermine the systems of oppression in which we live.

  • What does Leadership mean to a Community Activist?
    Jun 25 2026

In this episode of the Metroscope, I am joined by my esteemed colleague, Jolene Jones, who defines herself as an activist, first and foremost. I ask Jolene about how she defines leadership and what is needed to be a leader to her community. We also explore some of the many ways that an advocate becomes a leader and how Jolene's journey of life-long learning has shaped her understanding of herself as a leader.
