• Make A Difference Minute: A Life in Music
    Jun 12 2026
On this Make a Difference Minute, I have John Ford Coley, one half of the legendary duo England Dan and John Ford Coley, as he reflects on the people who first encouraged his musical gifts. John shares how his parents recognized his love for music early on, providing piano lessons and nurturing the imagination of a young boy who would pretend the footrest in a barber chair was a piano keyboard. Those early influences helped shape a career that has now spanned decades and produced timeless hits including "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight" and "Nights Are Forever Without You." Today, John continues to perform across the country, sometimes with groups like Ambrosia and Three Dog Night and sometimes by himself, sharing songs, stories, and plenty of laughter along the way. He says his goal is simple. He wants people to come together, forget the controversies of the world for a while, and simply enjoy the music. More than 50 years after his biggest hits first reached the airwaves, John Ford Coley is still doing what he loves, bringing people together through the universal language of music. Jun 12 2026
An early birthday present for this guy born at the tail end of the 70’s! Tonight, I’m honored to welcome one of my all-time favorite guests to The Mark White Show. Join me for a special conversation with John Ford Coley as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of two timeless classics, “I’d Really Love to See You Tonight” and “Nights Are Forever Without You.” John shares memories of his friendship with the late Dan Seals, the stories behind the music that became the soundtrack to so many lives and his thoughts on the enduring power of songs that continue to connect generations. We also take time to remember legendary WSM Radio broadcaster Bill Cody and the impact he had on artists and listeners alike. If these songs have ever brought back memories of summer nights, first loves, or special moments with someone you care about, I think you’ll enjoy this conversation. Real stories. Real people. • Make A Difference Minute: One Cup Can Make a Difference
    Jun 11 2026
On this Make a Difference Minute, I have Maelin Carlson and Landri Cruse, two Madison City School students who have turned a simple lemonade stand into something extraordinary. Together, they have now raised more than $21,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. What started with cups of lemonade has grown into a community effort that reaches far beyond their neighborhood. Along the way, Maelin and Landri have learned an important lesson: when people come together, they can accomplish far more than they ever imagined. Their message to other kids is simple. If you have a dream, go after it. Make it real! Their encouragement to adults is much the same. Keep pursuing the goals that matter and give them your best effort. These young ladies are proving that age doesn’t determine impact and that even something as simple as a cup of lemonade can help change lives. • One Cup at a Time: Maelin & Landri's Mission for St. Jude
    Jun 11 2026
Tonight, I’m joined by two remarkable young ladies who are proving that you are never too young to make a difference. Maelin Carlson and Landri Cruse, along with Maelin’s mom, Megan Carlson, will share how a simple lemonade stand has grown into a mission of hope for the children and families served by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. What began with two best friends wanting to help has become a community effort that has raised more than $21,000 over the past three years. We’ll talk about Maelin’s journey as a St. Jude patient, the friendship that brought these girls together, the generosity of local businesses and neighbors, and why they spend all year dreaming up new ways to make an even bigger impact. Their 4th annual lemonade stand will take place on July 11th in Madison, and their story is a reminder that kindness, compassion, and determination can change lives, one cup at a time. Real stories. • Make A Difference Minute: Creating Moments of Joy
    Jun 10 2026
On this Make a Difference Minute, I have Robert Diamond, better known as Bobby the Balloon Guy with Balloon Masters Entertainment. I caught up with Bobby at the Sheffield Public Library during their Summer Reading Adventure, where he entertained children and families with his Zany Magical Balloon Show. While many people know him for the incredible balloon creations he makes, Bobby sees himself as something more. He calls himself an entertainer because, as he explains, anyone can learn to twist balloons, but creating joy and truly engaging an audience is something different. Inspired by fellow magician Jeff McBride, Bobby believes one of the greatest gifts a performer can give is helping people escape the worries of everyday life, even if it’s only for a little while. For twenty minutes or an hour, bills, stress, and responsibilities can fade into the background as children and adults alike are invited into a world of laughter, wonder, and imagination. Perhaps even more importantly, Bobby says those moments allow adults to reconnect with their own childhood and create memories that families will cherish long after the show is over. • Make A Difference Minute: Learning to Carry the Pebble
    Jun 9 2026
On this Make a Difference Minute, I have my friend, Fran Birdwell, who is living with stage 4 colon cancer while also carrying the profound grief of losing two sons, Jacob and Matthew. Rather than trying to “get over” grief, Fran has learned that grief becomes something we carry. Drawing from a poem by Jessica Watson, she shares the powerful image of grief as a pebble. It is something we never fully put down, but over time we learn how to carry it without allowing it to consume us or steal our purpose. Because grief touches every life, Fran believes this message extends far beyond grieving parents. Whether we have lost a child, a spouse, a parent, a friend, or dreams we once held dear, we all face loss. The challenge isn’t to forget or move on, but to keep living, loving, and finding meaning while carrying what remains. Through unimaginable pain, Fran’s life is a testament to hope, resilience, & the truth that grief and purpose can exist side by side. • Carrying the Torch: Hope Beyond Grief
    Jun 9 2026
Tonight on The Mark White Show, I'm joined by Fran Birdwell for a deeply personal conversation about grief, hope, and learning how to live with both. Fran has been living with stage IV colon cancer and has endured the unimaginable loss of two sons. Through profound heartbreak, she has discovered that grief is not something we simply get over. It’s something we carry. It’s not easy. In fact, it can be very, very difficult. But we carry the torch for those who no longer can, not smoldering in sorrow, but shining brightly with love, purpose, and remembrance. Fran shares a powerful “pebble of grief” perspective and reminds us that even the smallest victories in the midst of loss are still victories worth celebrating. Real stories. Real people.
