Mercy With a Clock On It

There's a difference between a deadline you find out about after it's passed, and one somebody hands you in advance, on purpose, because they want you ready.

God could've just sent the final plague on Egypt with no warning at all. He already knew Pharaoh wasn't going to yield. He announced it anyway. Out loud. In advance. Midnight, He said. This is exactly what's coming, and exactly when.

That announcement wasn't a threat. It was mercy with a clock on it.

You've got one of those too. Something's coming. The only question is whether you'll be ready when it does, or whether you'll do what Pharaoh did and convince yourself it won't really come for you.

How Close Can You Get to the Dark and Still Walk Away? | Day 63

Pharaoh's own officials saw it before he did. They told him to his face: Egypt is already destroyed. He still wouldn't move.

Three days later, darkness fell so thick the text says you could feel it. Nobody could see their own hand.

Here's what nobody tells you about that kind of darkness: it doesn't fall out of nowhere. It's built one declined warning at a time, until the refusing starts to feel like inability, and you genuinely believe you never saw it coming.

Chosen blindness has a beginning. It also has an ending, if you're willing to look at what you've been refusing to see.

Pharaoh had the frogs in his own bed. Moses gave him the easiest opening in the whole book: name the hour, and God will end it.

Pharaoh said: tomorrow.

Not now, with relief sitting right in front of him. Tomorrow. One more night with the very thing he wanted gone, rather than bow today.

Three plagues. Three open doors. Three times the same word out of his mouth.
