• Swahili Grammar Made Easy- Reciprocal verb extensions explained.
    May 19 2026

If you are just beginning your Swahili journey and want a calm, structured way to finally start speaking with confidence, my free Swahili 5-Day Safari is the perfect place to begin. We focus on practical speaking patterns step-by-step so you are not left guessing what to learn next. Start here: Your Swahili 5-Day course

🎧 In today’s lesson, we explored one of the most beautiful parts of Swahili grammar: reciprocal verb extensions. This is the pattern that allows you to express actions people do to each other. Instead of simply saying “to help” or “to see,” Swahili gives you a natural way to say “help each other,” “see one another,” “love each other,” and more.

We looked at how reciprocal extensions often use -na at the end of the verb:

    • kusaidia → kusaidiana (to help each other)
    • kupenda → kupendana (to love each other)
    • kuona → kuonana (to see each other)
    • kusalimia → kusalimiana (to greet each other)

What makes this powerful is that you are no longer memorizing isolated words. You are beginning to see the logic inside the language. Once you understand verb extensions, Swahili starts feeling connected instead of random.

If today’s lesson helped something “click” for you, and you are ready for more structured lessons that build naturally on each other, come continue learning with us inside LSN: Swahili Made Easy®.

We focus on practical speaking, connected grammar, and steady progress for busy learners who are tired of piecing things together from scattered resources.

Now, let’s talk about prepositional verb extensions

In this lesson, we’re exploring one of the most important patterns in Swahili verbs—the prepositional extension.

This is what allows you to express ideas like:

    • doing something for someone
    • doing something to or toward someone
    • or directing an action more precisely

Instead of memorizing isolated phrases, you’ll begin to see how meaning is built into the verb itself.

Once you understand this, your Swahili becomes more flexible, more natural, and much more expressive.

Take your time with this lesson.
Listen closely. Repeat. Let it settle.

  • Do not speak Swahili WITHOUT learning this tense.
    Apr 1 2026

🌿 Today, we’re spending a little time with the present perfect tense in Swahili.

And I want you to think of this as one of those quiet turning points.

Because up to now, you may have learned words… maybe even a few sentence patterns… but expressing completed actions, what you have done, what you have said, what you have experienced, that’s where things start to feel more real.

So we’re not rushing through this.

    Just listen the first time.

Then come back and repeat a few of the sentences out loud.

Let it feel a little slow. That’s okay.

This is the kind of lesson that settles over time… and once it does, you’ll notice your confidence start to shift in a very natural way.

And if you’ve been wanting a clearer path, where each concept connects and builds so you’re not guessing what to learn next, you can explore that inside LSN: Swahili Made Easy. Start with the free five day course here 🔗

    You’re not behind.

You’re building something that will actually last.

In this episode, I’m sharing a bonus lesson originally taught to learners who completed my Swahili Noun Class Master Course. This lesson explains what the associative -a does, why it matters, and how understanding it brings order and clarity to the language.

  • Stop saying "nilisoma" when you mean "nilimsomea" 🤯
    Jul 3 2025

Stop saying "nilisoma" when you mean "nilimsomea" 🤯

The difference? One sounds like a textbook... the other sounds like you've been speaking Swahili your whole life.

    Here's what most learners miss:

❌ "Nilisoma" = I read (basic, flat, robotic)

✅ "Nilimsomea" = I read FOR HER (personal, meaningful, natural)

These 4 little endings (-ia/-ea/-lia/-lea) are the SECRET to sounding like a native speaker:

    • "Alimnunulia" = He bought FOR HER

    • "Tunawaandikia" = We write TO THEM

When you master these extensions, Swahili speakers will literally stop and ask "Wait, where did you learn that?" 🔥
