The Central African music he's referring to goes by different name but has been called Rumba, Lingala, Ndombolo, Soukous. If you lived on the continent between 80s and up to the 2000s you definitely heard Congolese music at parties...at least in much of Africa south of the Sahara. When I 1st heard Afrobeats, I could see how it took from Congolese music and incorporated other west African and Blk American flare to make it what it is today
