That is our opening line during this pulsating conversation, Edition 14 of the VUT Student Academic Development Support and Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Show, with Sylvia Mkhwanazi, the Information Coordinator at the Vaal University of Technology. "My passion to work with people, especially young individuals, started when I realized that most students are not sure what to study and where to get information from. I always say to them, the gap year is a no no to me. Rather study short courses while you are still trying to clear your mind. It is advisable to seek clarity if you are not sure. We are in conversation with Simon Mohlala, the Industry Liaison Officer at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) Co-Operative Education Under The Centre for Academic Development. He is reflecting with us on the key elements of the role. We are curious to hear how much of this role has been influenced by his self-leadership, self-direction, self-guidance, or how much is a given or prescribed to him by the university's business operating model and strategic intent. We are asking Simon how this role has transformed him. In other words, what did he change personally and professionally to step up to the challenges presented by this role.

This is the beginning of the series that is aimed at bringing all the role players that support the centre and its programmes into contact with their internal and external stakeholders. This will include all the Faculty WIL Coordinators, Specialists, and the university's industry partners, especially the mentors that support the WIL students in their companies during the internship, and of course the sponsors or companies' management and leadership.
