70-year-old former revered spiritual leader Daniel Savala pleaded guilty Thursday for a “pattern of sexual exploitation involving multiple victims over time.” A number of his victims crowded the courtroom yesterday to give victim impact statements. Savala is accused of grooming and abusing boys and young men beginning in the 1990s, using scripture to convince his victims to undress, saying “nudity is unity.” What’s even more disturbing about this story, church pastors continued to send children to Savala’s home for guidance even after he was convicted for child sex abuse in 2012.

Some major developments overnight in the Hantavirus cruise ship outbreak. The CDC has now classified the outbreak as level 3, activating the emergency operations center to monitor and assist with containment. 5 U.S. states are now monitoring passengers who have returned home after being exposed on the ship, but a concerning report is coming out of the south Atlantic. A British national who lives at one of the cruise ship stops has now fallen ill, with suspected Hantavirus, and never boarded the ship. In addition a French citizen on the plane with a passenger who died is also being tested for the virus after experiencing benign symptoms.

There is no known motive for why 52-year-old married father of two, Matthew Mitchell, would shoot and kill his wife and children this week, and then turn the gun on himself. The Mitchells were prominent Houston restaurateurs who spent the last several years building their business, appearing in magazines and on local tv together. Just 10 days before her death, Thy Mitchell posted a now eerie video with her husband, smiling and joking about growing old together.
