  • Suffering for no Reason, Ch.8 How God Makes Men
    May 4 2026

This week we are continuing the book, titled "How God Makes Men" by Patrick Morley.

Chapter 8 talks about the story of Job, who started out as one of the wealthiest men in his land and quickly lost everything. Job endured suffering which, from his perspective was for no apparent reason. The story of Job is a powerful one, even though he was suffering, he lost his children, his wife told him to forsake God. His friends came against him calling him to repent because "surely he has wronged God", but Job knew he was righteous and while he didn't understand why God was allowing it to happen. He never cursed God, he complained, sure, but he did not curse God. He endured, he asked questions, and by the end of Job he is restored, and the later years of his life was blessed even more than his earlier years.

Sometimes, we won't know the reason why God allows things to happen, and it's important we continue to praise God, to turn to God during those times. There are times when God will allow these things to happen to test our faith, to see if we are ready to be increased. Other times things happen because we have disobeyed, or because God wants to bring correction.

  • How God Makes Men: Chapter 6, Success that Matters
    Apr 13 2026

This week we are continuing the book, titled "How God Makes Men" by Patrick Morley.

Chapter 6 talks about the story of Solomon, who God appeared to in a dream, saying to him "ask me anything, and I will give it". Solomon responded by asking God for a heart of Discernment, God was pleased with his answer and granted it. In addition, God also granted Solomon with wealth and wisdom. Scriptures tell us there would be no one to be as wise as Solomon every again.

This week we take a look at some of the things Solomon did, and the conclusion that he drew. Solomon spent a decade searching for ways man could spend his time searching for fulfillment outside of God. He amassed massive wealth, a harem of wives and concubines, he built an empire! His conclusion: It was all meaningless, like chasing the wind!

This makes us think, maybe, we need to start redefining what we consider to be Success.

  • How God Makes Men: Chapter 5, Correction
    Apr 7 2026

This week we are continuing the book, titled "How God Makes Men" by Patrick Morley.

Chapter 5 talks about the story of David and The Principal of Correction, the story of David is such a powerful one! From Shepherd boy to King. However, David's story leaves a powerful message, a message of correction. David looked where he shouldn't have and took actions that angered God. Thus, he paid the consequence of his sins at the cost of two sons and the innocence of his daughter.

While Jesus died on the cross for our sins, we must still live in repentance as we make poor choices and sin. Though we must recognize that we are no long bound by sin, as John8:36 reminds us: "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."

  • How God Makes Men: Chapter 4, Unexpected Leaders
    Mar 30 2026

This week we are continuing the book, titled "How God Makes Men" by Patrick Morley.

Chapter 4 talks about the story of Gideon and The Principal of an unexpected leader. Honestly, sometimes when God calls us we feel inadequate and bound by our weaknesses. However, God is not limited by our weaknesses and will often shine through them, using them to glorify his name. The story of Gideon captures this perfectly, a man who was from the weakest clan, and the least of his family.

God used Gideon to rally 35,000 people, but then said "that's too many" and reduced the troop to a mere 300 men. Gideon was unsure if he was still the man for the job, and asked God 3 times to confirm. Each time, God answered, even up until the very last minute, right before the moment of executing God's plan, God revealed to Gideon a confirmation that Gideon was the one God had chosen to execute his plan.

Let's be honest, we all feel like Gideon when God calls on us, "really? Me? Are... are you sure? isn't there anyone else?" and that's OK. It's alright to ask God to clarify or verify that he called us into something. We need to realize that if God is with us, no one can be against us!

Even if we only have 300 men, some torches and some empty jars.

  • How God Makes Men: Chapter 3, Personal Transformation
    Mar 23 2026

This week we are continuing the book, titled "How God Makes Men" by Patrick Morley.

Chapter 3 talks about the story of Moses and The Principal Personal Transformation. Often times God will give us a calling that generally, doesn't go the way we expect it to. This chapter talks about taking leaps of faith and when we think something isn't working out of wind up wondering "was this really from God?" it's important to focus on your love for God. Realizing that yes, God has an agenda, but we often come with our own expectations.

This chapter walks through a powerful journey of Moses, unwrapping how God put Moses through a process of personal transformation before he delivered his people out of Egypt.

Sometimes, God will shake things down to the foundation by bringing us through a wilderness. During this time it's crucial that we listen to what God is trying to teach us rather than asking him to take us out of the wilderness.

  • How God Makes Men: Chapter 2, A Greater Good
    Mar 16 2026

This week we are continuing the book, titled "How God Makes Men" by Patrick Morley.

Chapter 2 talks about the story of Joseph and The Principal of a Greater Good. We don't always know why God puts us in certain scenarios or why he allows things to happen to us. It's important that we continue to have faith in him as he will eventually reveal to us why things happen the way they do. Even if we don't or can't see it while we are going through trials. Like the Story of Joseph, sold into Egypt by his brothers but God put him there so he could prepare for the famine to come, saving the lives of many.
