Summary

In this episode, Hayley and Giles explore nature’s wisdom and what it can teach us about cultivating more future-fit organizations. Together, they introduce three living-system aspects - life is always changing, life is full of tensions, and life is relational and interconnected - and unpack how organizations can grow into this way of being through a more developmental, emergent, and evolutionary culture.

The conversation looks at how leaders can learn to flow with change, rather than resist it, and why allowing tensions to unfold is a necessary part of progress. There’s also a focus on becoming more comfortable with the uncomfortable, and what that means in practice.

Drawing inspiration from the natural world, they explore the role of healthy competition, as well as the often fear-based tendency to manage others’ perceptions of us. The discussion also brings the Chaordic zone to life, alongside a number of practical models and frameworks that support a living-systems approach to leadership and organizational development.

Hayley also invites listeners to continue the journey beyond the podcast, as she introduces our third future-fit leadership skill: trusting.
