    On this episode Karen Dougherty is in conversation with Sue Baxt about the upcoming Canadian Psychoanalytic Congress, "Theories We Work With – Theories We Live By," in Montreal from June 4-6. Always very involved with the CPS Congresses and part of the organizing committee, Sue is a psychologist in private practice. She sees adults and adolescents in long- and short-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy and in psychoanalysis. Sue teaches the candidates at the CIP QE and the residents at Ottawa University and the psychotherapy candidates at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Society and Institute and at the Eastern Child Consortium in the continuous case program.

    Sue is a member of the Quebec English Branch, Contemporary Freudian Society, Guest Member Michigan Psychoanalytic Society. And she is the chair of the Extension Committee for the Association for Child Psychoanalysis and the North American Co-Chair of COCAP. Right now, Sue is developing a child psychoanalysis training program for Canada. Karen and Sue talk about the theme of this year's congress, the exceptional line-up of speakers and events, and the gorgeous location: Montreal in springtime.

    Margaret Ann, a Training and Supervising Analyst at the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society, has played a central role in psychoanalytic education and clinical training for decades. Known for her intellectual clarity and clinical depth, she has written and lectured widely on topics such as the nature of psychoanalytic knowledge, the process of interpretation, and the complexities of masochism. Her most recent book is Jane Austen: Sibling Rivalry, Unconscious Fantasy and Change.

    Margaret Ann has also been an important institutional figure in Canadian psychoanalysis, helping sustain dialogue between psychoanalysis, philosophy, and the wider intellectual culture. Through her teaching and mentorship, she has influenced generations of analysts and psychotherapists.

    Karen will be speaking with her about the 26th Joseph Sandler Psychoanalytic Research Conference being held in Toronto in fall of 2026 and hosted by Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis.
