It’s a rare Wednesday episode because Eric couldn’t join us yesterday, and even rarer, we’re recording while games are live. And somehow it turns into a full rookie-themed special.

We start with the big-league debut of Travis Bazzana, how we remember watching him coming up, and why Cleveland feels like the “must-watch” team if you follow Australian baseball talent. Weirdly, the other one might be Washington (Curtis Mead), which is not a sentence I expected to say either.

It’s a two-man Weekend Pickoff this week with Eric lost in a bush somewhere, so it’s just Rolsey and Spoon holding the fort. Rolsey is running on fumes after a big night at Leichhardt Oval (the eighth wonder of the world), while Spoon is looking forward to a quiet weekend of baseball on the couch.

We dive into the weekend slate, headlined by Padres vs D-backs in Mexico City, where Spoon is expecting the scoreboard operator to do overtime. Then Spoon drops his best tips for the weekend, including a play in Mets vs Rockies and another in Pirates vs Brewers.

We also keep an eye on Cardinals vs Mariners and the red-hot Cubs heading west to take on the Dodgers.
