She's been in a coma for years. How can she be pregnant?

When a coma patient starts to have contractions and gives birth to a baby boy, the child's arrival triggers an investigation into serious sexual assault.

Detectives McQuillan and Blalock are handed the case, while the internal hospital team collects data to help with the investigation.

When Dr. Angela Crawford, who helped deliver the baby, learns that the child will be put in foster care, she and her husband agree to take the little boy in.

Meanwhile, a young nurse, Jenny O'Hearn, helps compile data on the rapist and discovers several strange things. When Jenny is attacked, it forces the detectives to look at the case from a different perspective.

Could a staff doctor, male nurse, or the chaplain be the rapist?

Sometimes the truth isn't always obvious.

Drawn out and didn't like the narrator.

This book was drawn out in many places, wasn't a gripping thriller but wasn't boring enough to make me not want to listen to it.

The narrator spoke strangely, almost robotically at times (I don't mean her accent). her pronunciation of a few words were very strange.

over all, passable but not the best

Show don’t tell. That doesn’t really apply for this book. There is too much explanation, for instance about what the characters feel or why they do certain actions. This doesn’t leave much room for the listener for their own interpretation and can even become patronizing.
Apart from that it was a captivating story. Unfortunately, the book is narrated as if someone reads a news story out loud. I really missed empathy and the narrator ‘feeling’ the story. The story and the twists made it that I continued listening, but otherwise I would have quit after the first chapter.

Good story, but narrated as a news broadcast and too much tell instead of show

The characters were strong and the story was the edge of seat stuff. Really enjoyed reading this.

Not predictable at all

Good story but badly written.i enjoy listening to books but one thing that gets my goat, is when an author doesn’t know any other way to tell us that a different person was speaking. It was constantly she said he said they said, or she asked he asked they asked. There’s a lot of ways to write a conversation without saying he or she said. They could have tried the person uttered and the other person responded or when they were asking a question they could have said the person voiced the question that was on everyone’s mind. There are a lot of ways to write conversations without constantly saying he said she said. I would expect this kind of written conversation from a primary school kid.

I just loved this, so original and thought provoking. At times you just felt for everyone involved and I loved how the author made that happen. There were no winners here. I cant say more due to spoilers. I did like the narration and I felt it worked with the story line and brought more power to it.
This was yet another great find on the audible plus catalogue.

What a premise
