The story follows Lola, who witnesses a murder and ends up under the control of Santiago, a dangerous cartel leader. What I loved most was the tension between them; it’s that perfect enemies-to-lovers dynamic with a lot of emotional depth. As the audiobook progressed, I found myself getting invested in both characters, especially as their hidden pasts slowly came to light. The mix of suspense, romance, and twists kept me hooked the entire time. I also appreciated how the narration captured the intensity of their connection and the story's darker tone. It was a gripping and emotional listen.

It's been a little while since I last read an RC Boldt book, but listening to this reminded me how much I enjoy her writing. As I've told you guys various times before, I am always on the lookout for Hispanic/Latinx characters. This story did not disappoint. I was in love with the representation. With the way RC showcased the Costa Rican culture. The fact the narrators had an 'accent' just added to the enjoyment of the story.
Lola and Santi's chemistry was off the charts from the beginning and listening to them fall in love was 🤌🏼 chef's kiss. I couldn't get enough of this story and could honestly listen to it go on and on. I liked that ending of the future and it gives me hope for a future book in the series.
Overall love it and would highly recommend just check for triggers.

Brilliant narration from Adrian Zhander and Isabella Nickelsen

Lola works for a cleaning company. Due to co worker being sick she finds herself working in a large by herself and taking longer than normal. Just as she is finishing she finds a gun at her head as she witness a murder. All she can think of is to offer to clean the crime scene.
The man holding the gun Santiago is takes her up on the offer and tells her if she speaks to any he will kill her. There is much more to Lola and Santiago soon finds himself drawn to her. Even more so when his daughter Alma talking for the first time in two years to Lola.
The humour , teasing, and threats between them is brilliant. The secondary characters add to this book .

I love a good mafia romance, especially when it features morally gray anti-heroes and heroines with grit, sass, and zero patience for nonsense. This book absolutely delivers on that front. Santi is a mafia boss firmly planted in the gray-morals category. He deals drugs, protects his empire without hesitation, and has no problem ending anyone who threatens his family or business, including family members who don’t have the organization’s best interests at heart. Ruthless, calculated, and very much a “cross me and die” kind of man. Lola, on the other hand, is a housekeeper who accidentally sees far more than she ever should while on the job. But she is not the typical woman who begs for her life when discovered. Nope. Lola negotiates. Or plots. Or flat-out figures her own way out. You truly can’t keep a good woman down, and Lola is a very good woman…one with a past that collides intriguingly with Santi’s. Add in a savvy, lock-picking kid, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a dark mafia romance with unexpected heart. There’s plenty of spice (yes please), some genuinely funny moments (something I personally love in any story) and enough emotional depth to balance out the violence and power plays. All in all, this was a dark, spicy mafia romance with grit, humor, and heart. Definitely recommend.

This is an excellent book. It’s brutally honest. There’s a lot to learn from trauma and this leading lady is a pro. A brilliant performance.
