About this listen
You can't be afraid of the dark when you're the monster lurking in the shadows.
Eighteen-year-old Sorinda is a deadly assassin with a reputation to match. But her latest assignment is like no other. The pirate queen, Alosa, has tasked her with captaining a handpicked crew on a dangerous rescue mission, and her sailing master is none other than the infuriating Kearan.
But as they navigate through treacherous waters, they accidentally awaken the King of the Undersea, who summons an army of undead soldiers from the depths. With Kearan by her side, Sorinda must fight tooth and nail to survive.
Will Sorinda and her crew manage to save the world, or will she face a fate worse than death—becoming an undead queen controlled by the King himself?
©2023 Tricia Levenseller (P)2025 Macmillan AudioSet in the same world as Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen, this story follows the mysterious assassin, Sorinda.
After the events of the previous book, Sorinda finds herself promoted to captain of her own ship and sent on a very different kind of mission than she’s used to — a rescue mission. Along the way, she’s paired with Kearan, who has made no secret of his interest in her.
Once again, we get another strong female main character, which I absolutely love. But what makes Sorinda stand out is that she’s also more vulnerable in this story. She’s used to taking orders — not giving them — so it’s really interesting to see her navigate her new role as captain.
Watching her grow from a quiet, closed-off crew member into a leader who earns the loyalty and respect of her crew is such a highlight. At the same time, she’s dealing with challenges ahead, confronting her past, and slowly learning to open up and trust others.
