About this listen

When seventeen-year-old Isabella Swan moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father she expects that her new life will be as dull as the town itself.

In spite of her awkward manner and low expectations, she finds that her new classmates are drawn to this pale, dark-haired new girl in town. But not, it seems, the Cullen family. These five adopted brothers and sisters obviously prefer their own company and will make no exception for Bella.

Bella is convinced that Edward Cullen in particular hates her, but she feels a strange attraction to him, although his hostility makes her feel almost physically ill. He seems determined to push her away - until, that is, he saves her life from an out of control car.

Bella will soon discover that there is a very good reason for Edward's coldness. He, and his family, are vampires - and he knows how dangerous it is for others to get too close.©2005 Stephenie Meyer

Never having got into any of the vampire type tv series, I largely ignored the success of Twilight. With spare credits, I thought I'd try the first book out and now I'm hooked. I thought the narrator's voice beautiful and suited the character very well. Unlike another reviewer, I found the narration easy to follow, we're all different, so it's worth listening to the sample first.

Where does Twilight: Twilight Series, Book 1 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was nothing like the books I usually read, it felt sad.

Any additional comments?

Having watched the films, I already knew the story, and although there are subtle differences, and the book is easier to understand, the story remains very similar. I enjoyed the story, but I expected more and I can’t tell whether that is because of the films or just that I feel there should have been more to it. The plot is good and the story flows fairly well, but I feel like I’ve missed all the stuff that should be in between. Bella is lonely inside her own head and the first person narrative increases that sense of loneliness, bleakness, and emptiness. When Bella mentions any joy, I hear her guilt and I don’t feel the joy. I did enjoy the book, but I think I would have liked it more if it had other character’s points of view as well as Bella’s. Jacob, for instance, is a complicated person with a whole host of emotions that are desperate to burst out, and the film allows for this character to shine through, but the book keeps him imprisoned. I still intend to read the other books in the series, but I’m not rushing to start them.

Huge fan of the twilight series both book and films. I found this Audiobook ok but the narrator is very robotic sounding and really annoying. Her pronunciation to my UK ears is plain annoying

Massive Twilight fan

I have watched the films and the over riding detail that comes over is an utterly miserable bella. This is my first experience of the books and I enjoyed the story a lot more. I realise that to a large extent bella has no choice but to love Edward. It's his glamour that he does use on her. The fascination is there on her part and he by all accounts is too beautiful to ignore. Emotionally the romance moves very fast it also feels a bit like p.t.s.d. I have personal experience of this. So a little disturbing . Did the author intend these feelings of do we project? Anyway the narrator is fine , I was almost put off by reading the reviews about her but she does a very good job. I listen to a lot of audible books and know it's a personal thing about a narrator and they most definitely can ruin a good book. ( I'm thinking game of thrones here). I'm listening to book 2 of the twilight series next and hope to listen to all the books in this series with enjoyment. I am not a young adult and surely what I get from a book is going to be different than a Y.A. But a good book is for eveyone.

Narrator is fine
