Bloomsbury presents Trails and Tribulations written and read by Susie Chan.

‘I laughed, gulped and cried as I read Susie’s stories of battling through some of the hardest races on this planet as well as some of the hardest moments in her life’ Sophie Raworth

'Tells it all with an openness and honesty that comes from having endured some of the world's most gruelling tests of endurance' Dean Karnazes, ultramarathoner and New York Times bestselling author

'A truly inspirational read from a brilliant and determined runner' Iwan Thomas

AN EXHILARATING READ FROM ONE OF THE UK'S LEADING ENDURANCE RUNNERS.

Susie Chan is an icon of endurance running. Since taking up running at the age of 35, she has completed the legendary Marathon des Sables more times than any other British woman, set the 12-hour treadmill World Record and was one of the first women to finish all the World Marathon Majors.

Susie’s story is an inspirational fight against the odds. From leaving a dysfunctional marriage, managing as a single mum and tackling cancer treatment, Susie has had her fair share of adversity. Throughout it all, running has kept her going. She always finds a reason to lace up her shoes and hit the road – or the track, trail or tread. Her mantra: You never regret a run.

From the Moroccan desert, the Peruvian jungle and the sweltering Death Valley, to Susie’s local South Downs and a running track in Tooting, her adventures take her across the globe. With Susie’s down-to-earth personality, refreshing attitude and wicked sense of humour, we learn the countless reasons she finds to push herself further and the life-changing opportunities running has given her.

Her passion for the sport is infectious, and her story is a shining example to all in the running community and beyond.

Critic reviews

Susie Chan has broken records and she has broken barriers. Her new memoir tells it all with an openness and honesty that comes from having endured some of the world's most gruelling tests of endurance
A truly inspirational read from a brilliant and determined runner
Honest, authentic and real ... a wonderful running story
Inspiring, funny, moving and incredible tales. Chan writes like she runs – totally natural, exuberant, joyful. She’s a force of nature and this is an intoxicating read
Beautifully written … I laughed, gulped and cried as I read her stories of battling through some of the hardest races on this planet as well as some of the hardest moments in her life ... Trails and Tribulations will amaze and inspire everyone from non-runners to the best ultrarunners out there
What a story – told with Susie's trademark courage and humour
Astonishing and hugely inspiring... this book has blown me away. Susie writes beautifully and so viscerally I felt like I was running alongside her, struggling in the jungle and floating down sand dunes. This book is brilliant for runners and non-runners alike to encourage us all to challenge ourselves and to push at our self-imposed limits.
Susie brings to life the joy of running – in deserts, jungles, or simply stepping out the door
An exhilarating read … Susie reminds us that it is never too late for any of us
Susie Chan’s page-turning (and often hilarious) tale offers a behind-the-scenes look into what it takes to complete the world’s toughest running events ... underneath it all is a beautiful story of an athlete finding her strength and herself, one step at a time.
Susie is such a valued member of the running community... this book is just as interesting and honestly gripping for the non-running challenges she has faced as much as for the running. It truly is one of the best run-related reads of recent years.
Trails and Tribulations is not just a book about running; it’s a story of transformation, resilience, and the extraordinary power of pushing one’s limits (even when you have that niggling voice of self-doubt in your head). Susie Chan’s inspiring journey will resonate with runners and non-runners alike, offering a profound message about the enduring human spirit.
This book is unputdownable and Susie is unstoppable. A fabulous read that will make you want to push your running limits to the max and see what you can really do.
Chronicles her pretty incredible journey from non-runner to world record holder
The number one runner to follow on Instagram
An extraordinary running life ... a darling of the distance running world
Compelling
Susie recounts some of the toughest races on the planet with humour and humility
I wish I would have had this book sooner ... I read the first 5 or 6 pages and I was hooked. I thought it was really, really good

I am a keen runner and this audiobook was really enjoyable. I must admit I knew nothing about susie before listening to this other than she’s a peloton instructor!

I heard about this book on Between the covers. Thoroughly enjoyed every part of this book, honest, factual, learned a lot about all the various runs you can do & what shone through was Suzies determination. Suzie made me realise that it doesn't matter what distance you run, just enjoy the freedom it gives- Thank you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Susie at Parkrun last year. I've been following her on social media for quite a while so had quite a fangirl moment when I met her! I truthfully told Susie that I thought she was amazing, and her response...'I'm not really'.
!!!
Susie, you really are!
I thought Susie was brilliant before reading the book and having just finished it, my point has been proven. Running ridiculous mileage through jungles and deserts, the crazy training and heat chambers...
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can honestly say I was genuinely disappointed when I got to the end. Susie, can we have a second book please? :-)

Inspirational!
