About this listen

Some battles don't end when you come home.

Cal Bishop left a part of himself in Afghanistan—alongside brothers whose names are now etched into stone. Back in coastal North Carolina, he's a man adrift, haunted by flashbacks, sleepless nights, and the weight of promises he couldn't keep.

Then Ana walks into his life. She doesn't try to fix him. She listens. She stays. And slowly, against the backdrop of salty winds and quiet mornings, Cal begins to believe in something he thought he'd buried overseas: hope.

Through memories of combat and the wrenching aftermath, The Weight of Sand is a deeply human story about love that grows in the cracks, the ghosts we carry, and the courage it takes to set them down.

The Weight of Sand is unlike any military book I have listened to. It's a riveting story of war with an intimate, emotional, and heartfelt journey. The PTSD that is always lingering and sparking memories at everyday occurrences. Ana had such gentleness about her, and how she was there for Cal had me feeling all the things! Such a real portrayal of what life is like after coming home, and experiencing the post-war guilt, grief, and trying to find your way while staying above water. I truly feel the book gives the reader a better understanding of being around people who experience Ptsd. What a gripping debut that will live on in my heart for a long time.

The narrator casting was perfect for this book! CJ Bloom was such a great choice for Ana, her softness with her delivery while communicating with Cal and being there for him. Joe Arden delivered the emotional ups and downs of Cal after his military service. I felt the PTSD element was handled with care by both author and narrators, and really shone a light on how the world is for so many ex military.

🪖Mercy does not equal safety

🪖Justice does not equal revenge

This story is absolutely phenomenal, I felt like I was there with Cal through it all... the emotions, the flashbacks, the betrayal 😭

Me and Wolf were discussing through DMs as I was listening and I am so so glad he decided to release this book to help others 🫶

This story really shows that grief, guilt and ptsd is not linear ... the story writing isn't linear... each flashback set off for whatever reason took you to a different memory... some were still alive in later flashbacks to others etc it was back and forth just like in life ...

This was such an emotional rollercoaster and Joe was fantastic as always and really brought the emotions of Cal to life 🥺 Carly played the wonderful role of the calm understanding Ana who never pushed, who let Cal be what he needed to be ... his calm in the storm... which she did brilliantly 👏

Absolutely Phenomenal Story
