All I wanted was a weekend away from it all...

Graduation was on the horizon, and Jonathan and his friends were eager to leave their small world behind. But when a member of their close-knit group mysteriously disappears, a chilling unease settles in.

As 'Missing Person' posters saturate the town's streets and the sheriff is without clues, Jonathan and his friends decide to escape to a remote cabin in the woods to get away from the sympathetic looks of their classmates and the anxiety of it all. But their troubles will not be so easily left behind.

The idyllic getaway takes a dark turn as they discover they are not alone. Someone, or something is lurking in the shadows of the tranquil wintery forest, and their weekend retreat soon becomes a nightmarish fight for survival. Now, it's up to Jonathan to navigate the blood-soaked puzzle and ensure he and his friends make it out alive.

Will he succeed in outsmarting the unseen threat, or will he and his friends join the ranks of the legendary Vanishing Eight?

this is a perfect summer read, the nostalgia this book gives is one of the best more beautifully written I’ve heard in a long time. I can’t wait to read more from this author! Every assumption I made of how this book would go went in the most unpredictable way. Truly a great spooky thrilling story!

This audiobook completely pulled me in from start to finish. I’m usually not big on horror, but this felt more like listening to a really intense episode of Dateline with a haunting small-town atmosphere and an ending I never saw coming. The suspense kept me guessing the entire time, and I was genuinely shocked by who the killer turned out to be.

What stood out most was the slow-burn psychological tension mixed with the emotional side of friendship, loss, and secrets left unspoken. The small-town setting made everything feel even more claustrophobic and unsettling as the story unfolded. It’s not overly gory or fast-paced, but it has this quiet sense of dread that lingers with you long after it’s over.

Thoughtfully written, suspenseful, and full of twists, this was such a gripping mystery thriller. Definitely recommend for anyone who loves psychological thrillers or murder mysteries that keep you thinking after you finish. Very excited to see what this author writes next.

The Vanishing Eight pulls you in quickly with its mystery and growing sense of unease. The story keeps revealing just enough to make you want to keep listening, and the suspense builds steadily as more questions begin to surface.

The narrator was great and brought a lot of expression to the story, which made the audiobook even more engaging. It really helped the tension and atmosphere come through. A solid listen for anyone who enjoys mysteries and thrillers with secrets, suspense, and strong narration.

This is good old fashioned tell me a scary story around the campfire kind of fun, in the model of Stephen King, with a vintage story set in Washington state - the fictional town of Piedmont, where things start to go a bit eerily reminiscent of the Evil Dead - a friend vanishes in a relentless storm during a cabin stay in the weekend. Full of suspense and excellent mood building with a wonderful narration performance by Jake Cline.
