As winter closes in and blizzards cut them off, the hotel seems to develop a life of its own. It is meant to be empty. So who is the lady in Room 217 and who are the masked guests going up and down in the elevator? And why do the hedges shaped like animals seem so alive?
Somewhere, somehow, there is an evil force in the hotel - and that, too, is beginning to shine . . .

Critic reviews
Would you consider the audio edition of The Shining to be better than the print version?
Yes.What did you like best about this story?
Danny's strength as a kid through the ordeal he went through, I would have ended up a basket case after all that, OMG!!What about Campbell Scott’s performance did you like?
Very good and a great accompaniment to the movie, as good as Jack Nicolson played the lead as an actor!!Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Jack turns back to his normal self for a moment and tells Danny to run and get out of The Overlook! The last moment of lucid sanity .Any additional comments?
Great book and storyAddictive but scary as shell!!

I loved this book!

I am so glad I did. I remember the film as scarey, but don't remember really understanding the characters, who seemed to be a little two dimensional. The main purpose of the film seemed to scare, but not to really involve you.
The book is so different. OK, it is scarey, but it is Stephen King! However to me, the difference is that I understood and empathised much more with all the characters who really came to life, and I too now want to know what happened to them after The Shining.
I heard that King didn't really care for the screen adaptation, I can understand why.
The narration of the characters is good, but at times the surrounding description of unfolding events lacks atmosphere. While I consider it could be better, it does not, for me, detract from the unfolding story, so, to those, like me, whose remembrance is based on the screen adaptation, I would wholeheartedly recommend listening to this audiobook.
