This is it, the day I take over my father’s adventuring shop!

Set at the base of Gianskarl mountain, where lies a vast and mysterious dungeon, this is the perfect spot. Many adventurers come to try their hand at the Karl in the hopes of hitting it big. And it’s up to me now to sell them the equipment they’ll need to face the dangers that await them.

But where my father was content selling trinkets for a pittance, I want to turn this modest shop into the industry leader. Heck, I want to make a fortune out of it so I can help grow my poor village, Karlton, into a thriving city and accomplish my dream of building New Valley.

To help me in this endeavor, I can count on my skills as a Level 1 Runesmith. My plan is simple enough: inscribe the items I sell with various enchantments to improve their stats and command higher prices. There’s just one tiny little problem. See, my shelves are pretty much empty. I have no inventory and I also miss the scrive I would need to create the runes in the first place. To add insult to injury, that scrive ought to be fashioned from a magical beast’s body parts; the more magical, the better. And I just happen to know exactly where to get such a rare find: in the boneyard of Giants, resting within the dungeon.

Yep, seems like the only way for me to kick start my new venture is to delve into that death trap in search of items to sell and the magical bone for my scrive. But there’s a reason no one from our village dares to enter the foreboding place. As I’ll soon find out, the Karl is home to all manner of strange creatures and spirits that will not hesitate one second to turn you into their next lunch. One thing is certain, I will need all the skills I learned as an apprentice Runesmith to succeed in my mission and come back alive.

But hey, who said the life of a shopkeeper was a peaceful and uneventful one?

it's been a while since I've last listened to audible, and the narrator did a great job pulling me back into audible books. Great pace, characters were fleshed out beautifully and great voice acting!!! thoroughly enjoyed the book.

need a second book!!

It's really Good!

I listen to many audiobooks, this one has to be up there with some of the best.
I highly recommend this and can’t wait to get the next two instalments.

Great start!

So from listening I can tell that the author has 100% spoken to other human beings before and he’s pretty good at recreating that in his story. Lots of good interactions and a nice clip to the story.

The issues come when there is sexual interactions with the dragon ho, now I don’t hate sex in stories, although having a man solo that raw dog is kinda crazy, but to do this successfully it needs to be well timed and it needs to be written in a way that almost no author I have ever read/listened to could do well.

All this is to say that I have head or read bad sexual encounters in stories before but none convey the authors sexual experience quite as succinctly as in this story, if you could be a virgin but backwards then this man would be you.

Crazy how I can tell from listening to this that the author is a virgin

Mc is portraied to be gifted, smart and schooled, but we learn this through what feels like excuses for why he outsmarts people. His main job/class is as a merchant but he gets ripped of all the time, either by extortion or he walks away thinking he's got one over on the other party while accepting ludicrously bad deals. such as the deal with the swordsmith where he simply could have gone to the other smiths and paid less for a better product. Or when he came back to the runesmith he just randomly throws out; I'll give you all runes you want in the future free of charge!? why? you just had a long arc fulfilling the guys crazy request to pay him and you feel it wasn't enough to pay him for two way less expensive runes.

It would be funny if the story didn't take itself so seriously. I don't know what this story is suppose to be and I don't think the author knows either.

Also the love scenes just feel like the author was feeling somekinda way one day and through it in. It doesn't fit.

The saving grace is that the narrator is good.

Feels messy..
