'Newson radiates empathetic concern for women's quality of life.' - The Sunday Times

For decades, three vital hormones in the female body, progesterone, estrogen and testosterone, have been misunderstood, dismissed and feared. Their critical roles in improving function of women's brains, bones, hearts and long-term health have been ignored.

Confusion between natural, body identical hormones and synthetic, chemically altered 'hormones' has distorted medical guidelines and shaped media narratives. The result? Countless women struggling with hormone imbalances left untreated, misdiagnosed or told to take antidepressants and other medications instead of being prescribed the hormones their bodies are lacking.

In this bold, evidence-based book, leading doctor and women's hormone specialist Dr Louise Newson exposes the uncomfortable truth behind medicine's blindness and complacency, revealing how women's suffering has been normalised for generations. Drawing on powerful medical history, science and decades of clinical experience, she dismantles myths around menopause, HRT and so-called 'sex hormones', and gives women the knowledge that has been withheld for too long.

The Power of Hormones exposes why so many people have been let down and continue to be failed by outdated medicine. Passionate, empowering and refreshingly honest, the book shows how understanding and restoring hormonal balance can transform quality of life as well as future health.

This book delivers factual information and historical context on hormones and how they impact our day to day lives. it highlights the way in which hormonal shifts cause health issues both mental and physical that are poorly supported by the health service. It is an essential read if you experience hormonal issues or not. It addresses taboos of psychosis and PMDD, post-partum depression and menopause. It offers ways to monitor your symptoms and language you can use to speak with your GP, balance and not just prescriptions. It also documents a difficult journey to bring unheard stories such as women in prison to light. Please read and pass on... it is part of a slow burning revolution.

This book has important information for anyone whether you have experiences of menstrual cycles or not.

This is such an inspirational and informative book, read eloquently by the author. There is description of the development of medicine over the centuries, and misogynistic practices in relation to women’s health. Louise also highlights the dangers of many prescription synthetic medications, which starkly contrast the use of natural hormones. The author gives voice to marginalised women in prisons, and highlights the lack of hormone education in doctors serving these communities. She also speaks with emotion about her own experience of receiving medical treatment and repeatedly being gaslit by health professionals.
Let us hope that the medical profession will acknowledge her insight and experience, and stop harassing and bullying her - and also start supporting her and collaborating with her endeavours to research this important area.

Thank you Louise Newson! Outstanding book

Dr Newson is a hero , fighting for a woman’s ability to access hormones. I am a patient at her clinic and the hormones I have been able to access have been life transformative!
So very thankful she has continued through the hard times and ridicule she has been put under!
