The seventh book in the epic and bestselling series that has gripped millions.
A hero will be forged from this broken land.As seen on Netflix and BBC around the world.
Alfred the Great is dead and Edward his son reigns as king. Wessex survives but peace cannot hold. The Danes in the north, led by Viking Cnut Longsword, stand ready to invade and will never rest until the emerald crown is theirs.
Uhtred, once Alfred’s great warrior but now out of favour with the new king, must lead a band of outcasts north to recapture his old family home, that great Northumbrian fortress, Bebbanburg.
Loyalties will be divided and men will fall, as every Saxon kingdom is drawn into the bloodiest battle yet with the Danes; a war which will decide the fate of every king, and the entire English nation.

Critic reviews
Where does The Pagan Lord rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is part of the overall saga and as such its hard to differentiate this from the rest of the series. On the whole the series is well paced, set in an interesting period of history of England.......well worth listening to the whole series. If you want to just listen to one book out of the series, you would be better off starting with the first book - the plot and characters rely on previous knowledge to get the best out of this book. What about Matt Bates’s performance did you like?
The narrator is easy on the ear, although some of the character voices he produces seem to be out of context - for example Osfirth's voice seems almost "semi-detached" from what is going on (no sense of urgency when that might be required by the story).Any additional comments?
Well worth investing the time and money / credit in this instalment.Great Continuation of the Saga
