In 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box.

But when the three Eastwood sisters join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement. Stalked by shadows and sickness, hunted by forces who will not suffer a witch to vote - and perhaps not even to live - the sisters must delve into the oldest magics, draw new alliances and heal the bond between them if they want to survive.

There's no such thing as witches. But there will be.

These 12 audiobooks, perfect for the longer nights, colder weather and the Halloween season, tell the stories of women through history, from goddesses to regular women, through a mix of horror, fantasy and historical fiction.

This was a real find. Strong women, magic, a wonderful twist on old tales and rhymes... just lovely.

The narrator does a great job of flawlessly developing all the characters, and the musical elements mean that this is surely always going to an absolute treat for the ears.

Highly recommended!

My favourite book of the year, captivating, absorbing, beautifully written. Tension, mystery, intrigue and glimpses of humour woven together in a book I want to reread straight away.

Excellently enchanting

The book started slowly but soon got into the detail. The book meandered sufficiently to get to know the Eastwood sisters but was never boring as the story provided a look into the past and an understanding of who, what and why. I really enjoyable story.

Really enjoyed this book

It took me a little while to get into this, but once it got going I absolutely loved it.
Wonderful story, great narration.
The music was very well done and supportive of the atmosphere too, it's a shame the composer was not credited at the end.
Overall, a great listen and I will be seeking out more work by both the author and the narrator.
