About this listen

The Master and Margarita is one of the most famous and best-selling Russian novels of the 20th century, despite its surreal environment of talking cats, Satan, and mysterious happenings. Naxos AudioBooks presents this careful abridgement of a new translation in an imaginative reading by the charismatic Julian Rhind-Tutt. With War and Peace and Crime and Punishment among the Naxos AudioBooks best-sellers, this too promises to be a front title.

Critic reviews

"Bulgakov’s satire of the greed and corruption of Soviet authorities illustrates the redemptive nature of art and faith, and Julian Rhind-Tutt’s superb interpretation does the classic full justice. With a dramatic flair and a deep, multilayered voice, he pulls off a host of fantastical characters including Professor Woland (Satan) and several of his associates, Pontius Pilate and Jesus Christ, witches and madmen and a variety of early 20th-century Moscow literary and theater types." A random series of events loosely connected about...you tell me

The voice actor was good so that’s something

It’s hard to comment on the story as all of the voices used for each of the characters detracted from the words. I’m unsure if the voice artist was trying to turn it into a Python sketch, but it didn’t work for me.

I ended up using it as a means of getting back to sleep because the story was lost in the performance.

I will get the book from the library as I have been told to persist.

Shame.
