In the third of the critically acclaimed China thrillers, Li Yan and Margaret Campbell travel to Shanghai: where a new ally, and a new enemy, await.

THE NEW CASE

When a mass grave containing eighteen mutilated female corpses is discovered in Shanghai, detective Li Yan is sent from Beijing to establish if the bodies are linked to an unsolved murder in the capital. Here, Li will be working with Mei Ling, deputy head of Shanghai's serious crime squad.

THE NEW COLLEAGUE

Mei Ling is a formidable woman: a fact that is not lost on Li's on-off lover, forensic pathologist Margaret Campbell. But when Campbell, vulnerable and still grieving the loss of her father, learns that the victims were subjected to 'live' autopsies, she knows the case is bigger than her pride.

THE KILLING ROOM

Li, Campbell and Mei Ling are now entering the arena of a sickening nemesis, and opening a door behind which lies each of their very worst nightmares.

One more good instalment in the China thrillers now we are in a different city with a different woman; plus Margaret, making this investigation that is a political hot potato even hotter, Li Yan has many problems to resolve in his personal life and his political acumen has to be sharper than ever. The discovery of eighteen bodies and the mysteries they hold make for interesting dilemmas about societies and cultures, money and political power, in a country where the party and the oligarchs are closely related.
Entertaining and thoughtful, gruesome and unflinching stories of culture clashes of our time.

Absolutely excellent. Beautifully written and painstakingly researched. Even though there is a lot of detail and technical material, the story flows so well. You always learn a great deal from Peter May's novels. Peter Forbes is the best narrator and I wish he could narrate every book in the audible shop. This is the 3rd in the China thriller series, such a pity that for some inexplicable reason the 4th book is not available in the uk audible store.

Another Superb Book from Peter May

A complex plot and I couldn't have guessed the ending . Sadly I lost patience with our policeman hero. A man who has a sharp mind and is a master at dissecting clues and discovering the truth of a case and he can't see how he is complicating and destroying his relationship? Didn't wash really for me. But the other elements of the story were enjoyable.

Good but not his best
