About this listen

Four friends. One betrayal. And a revenge that didn’t die with him.

Chris Harcourt is dying. At just 51, cancer is claiming his life, but not before his wife Jess delivers a final, devastating blow. On the day of his death, she reveals the secret she’s been hiding for decades: she slept with each of his closest friends, in cold, calculated revenge for his long-ago affair with her best friend.

Now, the once-tight foursome is fractured beyond repair…and someone is making sure it stays that way.

One by one, the men begin to die. A slashed throat on the golf course. A stabbing in a school car park. A hit-and-run gone horribly wrong. Detectives Will Stewart and Claire Landon race to find the killer, following a trail that leads them to Chris’s former carer, Elsa Manvers. Jess’s carefully timed tip places Elsa squarely in the frame.

But in a twist no one sees coming, the real killers are still out there hiding in plain sight. And they’ve only just begun....

Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden and Shari Lapena, The House of Lies is a dark, twisty tale of vengeance, secrets, and the terrifying lengths some people will go to protect family.

A real page turner. Kept me guessing with an ending that totally shocked me. I really enjoyed the book.

I have read a few of Anita Waller’s books and whilst the stories are good, the narration is like a warm hug. I felt this story was a bit weak and far fetched and I had guessed who I thought was the killer halfway through (lots of hints) but all is not as it seems, it’s quite an abrupt end. An okay listen but not amazing. I would steer people to other Anita Waller’s books ahead of this one

Great narration and likeable characters but…
