Venice, 1486.

Across the lagoon lies Murano. Time flows differently here – like the glass the island’s maestros spend their lives perfecting.

In secret, Orsola Rosso learns to craft glass. As a woman, she must flout convention to save her family from ruin. We follow her through hundreds of years of war and plague, tragedy and triumph, love and loss.

Skipping like a stone across the centuries, The Glassmaker is a virtuoso portrait of a woman, a family and a city that are as everlasting as glass.

Amazing time hopping device! What a wonderful way to tell a story. And exquisitely narrated. You will not be disappointed.

Wonderful and beautifully read

A must have for your holiday chill. Having visited some of these locations this book really added to the appreciation of the skill and history of glass making in Morano....why they are based away from the main land and the rivalry and secrecy surrounding glass making. A Great listen :)

A delightful listen

I love Tracy Chevalier and her books, and really enjoyed this way of telling one story which unfolds over the course of many centuries.

Beautiful as always, with a surprising twist in structure

I was really enjoying this book and already recommending it but the random time jumps although given a loose explanation don’t make sense and don’t add to the story as the initial part is so much better researched and detailed. Odd very quiet narration with many of the voices similar but got used to it.

Great for the first half
